Former Bafana Bafana striker and Kaizer Chiefs legend Shane McGregor has given a detailed explanation of why Bafana Bafana are languishing behind the Springboks and Proteas.
While the country continues to celebrate the Springboks' achievements, Bafana are struggling to be a permanent feature in the FIFA World Cup.

"It boils down to one thing, and that's development," McGregor tells KickOff.
"Rugby and Cricket have proper development structures in place, and soccer doesn't have anything like that.
"It's as simple as that. Not everything is about money. It's about where the money goes and what is done with it.
"In this country, soccer has no development, where is SAFA developing players? Nowhere, and that is the biggest problem.
"You can't expect players to develop themselves. We've got lots of talent, but it's not going to happen.
"What official development do you have here in South Africa? Does SAFA have an Academy? That is the problem.
"Why are SAFA allowing clubs and others to develop players when they are not doing anything about it?
"Clubs just look after themselves, they are not worried about whatever else, SAFA should be taking back the development of players.
"If you go back years ago, we had the Transnet School of Excellence and remember how many good players came out of that and played for the Under-23s and went on play overseas.
"The money dried up in that project because they were not putting money into it.
"That's the only real development we've had in this country in Soccer.
"If you look at the structures in Rugby and Cricket, there are no such structures in soccer, and that is the problem.
"In football, there is no development, as soon as they wake up and do it, the better."
