Foster reveals all on Premier League debut, many sacrifices made by his father

Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster revealed all on making his highly-anticipated debut in the English Premier League while detailing how his father sacrificed for him to realise that very dream.

The South African has made an impressive start to life at Burnley under Vincent Kompany having registered two goals in four appearances so far this season.

The 23-year-old has quickly repaid the faith shown by Manchester City legend Kompany - in selecting Foster in his starting line-up - by scoring in the last two consecutive fixtures against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hostpur.

"As I moved up to that level, I had to realise that it was a big step for me," Foster told reporters.

"The Premier League I think, is the most watched league in the world with some who dub it the most difficult league in the world.

"To be able to play there against opponents who have won Champions Leagues and World Cups is something that has had to obviously change in my mind.

"It's a permanent change now, I'm on my way forward as I foresee myself there for the foreseeable future.

"I wouldn't regard myself as a role model, I'd just like to fight as hard as I can to help everyone in the team.

"We've got good players, especially up front as well. We've got Zakes [Zakhele Lepasa] and Lebo Mothiba who are both doing well.

"So, we can all learn from each other, and the other attackers are all on form right now. I don't think there's a class system in the national team, I think we all just learn from each other."

Father sacrifices

Foster went on to reveal the many sacrifices made by his father who gave up his job to support his son in achieving his dream as a professional footballer.

"My dad quit his job so that I can chase this dream," Foster added.

He's done it since I was young where he was always there and he sacrificed alongside my mother.

"Both of them played big, big roles. My mother was forced to still work but my dad was driving myself and my sister around.

"I think it was the perfect relationship and it still is while being my biggest support structure whenever I feel things aren't going my way they're the first people I contact.

"My parents are the reason I'm here and I'll always be eternally grateful for everything they've done.

"I'm still only 23 years old, so there is hopefully still many years ahead of me to continue to make them proud.
