Upon his move to Cairo, he requested the club rope in Mokwena as one of his assistant coaches along with fitness coach Kabelo Rangoaga and performance analyst Musi Matlaba.
However, the 32-year-old rejected the chance to join Mosimane with in a statement claiming his loyalty to Masandawana before the club announced his hiring with 49-year-old Manqoba Mngqithi as Mosimane's successors on Sunday.
"I thought it necessary to state categorically that I am loyal to Mamelodi Sundowns and am staying at Mamelodi Sundowns," read part of Mokwena's statement to confirm his rejection of the Club of the Century.
The message about loyalty was clearly heard by the new Red Devils coach, who mentioned it in response to President Cyril Ramophosa's congratulatory message on his appointment at the most demanding job in African football.
"Thank you very much, President. But somebody says I am disloyal to have gone over there! It is so unfortunate but God has taught me to forgive, as l keep marching on," Mosimane wrote on his official Twitter account.
Mosimane, who was officially unveiled to the media on Saturday, touched on his bold move to leave Masandawana after securing five league titles and the CAF Champions League in seven seasons.
"Of course it was not easy for me to come to Al Ahly and leave Sundowns. I have much respect for them after spending eight years with them, it was a very hard decision," he said.
"We had great success this year; this season was one of the biggest seasons as we won three trophies in South Africa and the fans were celebrating with us.
"I think this shows how big Al Ahly is. Al Ahly is respected in Africa and it is a great honour for me to be here."
Mosimane begins his tenure in the Egyptian Premier League tonight when they take on Arab Contractors at the Cairo International Stadium at 20h00 (GMT+2).
