Official: France Football cancel 2020 Ballon d'Or

For the first time since the inception of the award in 1956, the esteemed publication announced on Monday that due to exceptional 'circumstances' and 'provisions' the ceremony will be cancelled.

It's been suggested that the Covid-19 enforced suspension of football has not created 'fair' conditions to judge the performances over the 2019/20 campaign.

Record six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, Megan Rapinoe will now hold the honours as winners until the next award ceremony at the 2021 edition.
