Mamelodi Sundowns have begun the current season in formidable form in their pursuit to reach new heights to lift yet another DStv Premiership title.
With competition evidently having become way too lightweight for Sundowns in domestic football they could spend the rest of the season playing for the records.

Teams normally divide the 30 games campaign into five blocks of six games with championship-winning teams setting targets of at least 12 points from each block.
As it stands, Sundowns have come out with flying colours from the first block after pocketing 16 points from the opening six games after five wins and one draw.
In that, the run they have not conceded which is the longest a team has kept clean sheets at the start of a new season.
At this rate, they will have conceded the least number of goals at the end of the season and better than the 11 that Kaizer Chiefs conceded on their way to the 2003/04 title.
'Invincibles' record…
No team has ever gone unbeaten all season in the history of the PSL. The best attempt was by Sundowns last season, but they came stuck at game number 22 when Chiefs handed them their only defeat of the season. They have won six so far.
Most wins record…
Sundowns won 22 on their way to the 2015/16 title which remains the most in a 16 team league. The Brazilians must now win another 18 from the remaining 24 games to surpass this mark.
Least defeats…
Sundowns lost once on their way to the title last season which remains the least number of defeats in a single season. The only way to improve that is to avoid defeat all season.
Least draws…
The least number of draws record is three and is held by Mpumalanga Black Aces (2010/11), Thanda Royal Zulu (2008/09), Black Leopards (2002/03) and Santos (1997/98). Sundowns have drawn once so far and must play only one more stalemate to improve that record.
Most goals…
In the history of the PSL, it is Kaizer Chiefs who have scored the most goals (73) in a single season but that was in an 18-team league in the 1998/99 season. For a 16 team league, the highest scored was by Chiefs who scored 55 in the 2004/05 season which was then matched by Sundowns in the 2015/16 season. Sundowns have so far scored 11 and will need 45 from 24 games to better that mark.
Most points…
Sundowns reached 71 points on their way to the 2015/16 title, which remains the highest in a single season. They will need another 56 points from 24 games to set a new high.
Longest unbeaten start to a new season…
Sundowns went 21 games without defeat last season which remains the longest run without losing a league match since the start of a new season. The Brazilians have this one within reach as well.
