After recently celebrating their 42nd league title, Al Ahly quickly had to shift focus to a cup quarter-final.
The Egyptian champions were without the services of star winger Mahmoud Kahraba, who had tested positive for the coronavirus this week.
Walid Soliman opened the scoring for the Egyptian giants with a quarter of an hour gone before the Fertilizers were reduced to ten men in the 26th minute when Ibrahim Ragab was sent off.
And Mosimane's men would immediately capitalise on their numerical advantage, with Soliman grabbing his second in the 25th minute and what would be the eventual winner.
If Al Ahly are to go all the way, it will already be the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor's second piece of silverware since joining the club at the end of last season after guiding the Brazilians to a domestic treble.
Al Ahly will now turn their attention to next Friday's CAF Champions League final against fierce rivals Zamalek.
