Bandile Shandu says Maritzburg United have learnt from past mistakes and ready to win Telkom Knockout final

The Team of Choice have become one of those sides that have managed to come out of tough situations in the last four seasons, from surviving relegation to losing in the Nedbank Cup final, back to fighting relegation again.

Now they find themselves with another chance to win their first ever cup in the PSL when they face Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening (18h00) after beating Kaizer Chiefs in the semifinals.

A player who has been with the team through most of their ups and downs is Bandile Shandu, who has shared what the mood in the camp is like as they look forward to the one feeling they have never experienced.

"There's no feeling that beats this one besides winning the actual cup. Everyone is excited and looking forward to the final, we are all working hard," Shandu said.

"It's important for each and every fan that has been supporting us through thick and thin from last season. It means a lot for the team and as individuals. Every player wants to win silverware."

With all the challenges Maritzburg have managed to overcome, the midfielder believes as players they have grown and learnt lessons, which they are looking to turn into success on Saturday.

"I think from the Nedbank Cup final, you grow as a player and as a person as well. You know the mistakes that you've done. What matters is bouncing back from those mistakes and not allowing those things to happen again," he explained.

"From then and now I think we've grown from that experience and heartbreak, so on Saturday it will be a different ball-game. As long as we work hard and go the extra mile we will definitely get a positive result."
