What AmaZulu can learn from Pirates

AmaZulu head coach Pablo Franco Martin is hoping to be given the same patience as Orlando Pirates' Jose Riveiro to build a title-winning squad as the two teams prepare to face off in the DStv Premiership.

It will be a Spanish affair at Moses Mabhida Stadium when Martin meets his Spanish compatriot in Riveiro. While the two coaches will be sitting on separate dugouts, Martin reveals he is full of admiration for Riveiro and the Buccaneers' hierarchy.

"The success [of Pirates] is there, not only in terms of trophies but also in terms of how the team has been developed in the last year and a half," Martin said at the pre-match press conference on Monday.

"I said in the beginning it's a matter of the technical staff, but it's also a success for the club because Riveiro didn't start very well last season but they gave him the trust, they gave him time. They realised that they were improving even though the results were not coming.

"Since then, as they showed that patience, they are getting everything they deserve and they've been working hard for from the very beginning.

"So I have lots of admiration for him, for his technical staff and how the club is doing and hope we have the same time to build the same thing because we have the same vision here [at AmaZulu].

"We want to be too big again, we want to be representing AmaZulu in the African competition and we want to fight and win trophies."
