Two PSL rivals join Pirates in AmaZulu star chase

Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have joined Orlando Pirates in the race to sign AmaZulu FC defender Riaan Hanamub, who is looking increasingly likely to leave the KwaZulu-Natal side.

The Buccaneers have been linked with the Namibian international since last season, but Sundowns will be considered as being in pole position to land the fullback as they rarely lose out in a transfer battle with local clubs.

According to an insider, Usuthu are not planning on selling one of their top players but are willing to listen to any of these teams, with the possibility of changing their stance if the price is right.

All of the Big Three have been persistent in their chase of the 29-year-old, and have all made contact with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit regarding the player.

While there is no confirmation on how much they are expecting to fetch for Hanamub, what's clear is that they will be selling to the highest bidder.

Hanamub played in all four matches for Namibia at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that took place in Ivory Coast earlier this year.

"There are now three teams that want Riaan Hanamub in South Africa," a source tells KickOff.

"But the thing is, he is very much part of AmaZulu's plans for this season, and they are not planning to part ways with him, unless something more exciting comes their way.

"So, he is not for sale unless the club receives an exciting offer. The Big Three have made contact with Usuthu; I'm talking about Sundowns, Pirates and Chiefs, but there's also a team from outside the country," added the source.

Hanamub arrived at AmaZulu from Chippa United in 2022, scoring one goal and providing six assists in his 66 appearances so far.

The club is believed to have exercised the option they had in the player.
