Usuthu boss breaks silence on transfer plans

AmaZulu FC chairman Sandile Zungu has revealed the club's plans for the upcoming January transfer window.

The KwaZulu-Natal side is on a search for a proven goalscorer and according to reports, are already in talks with a a few strikers from outside the country.

Usuthu is being strongly linked with 24-year-old Cameroonian forward Leonel Ateba, who is said to be talking to Tanzanian club, Young Africans.

Coach Pablo Martin is believed to be a huge fan of Ateba and aims to bring him to the KZN side in January. The club recently lost their top striker Bonginkosi Ntuli who passed on recently due to a short illness.

"At the moment I can't say anything about that player because I'm (yet to) meet my technical team," Zungu tells KickOff.

"I know there are a couple of players they want to bring on board in January and some in July. So the striker, I don't know whether he is one of those, but we've certainly not discussed this before.

"It may well be true but we haven't spoken about it. I can't say yes, I can't say no, honestly. But yes, we are on the lookout for a talent that can strengthen our team, and we will definitely consider something from the far shores," the chairman said.

"January transfer window... It's not a window where you do wholesale changes. My experience is, if we sign two players that will be more than enough. In January we intend to sign only one or two players and that's all," he added.

AmaZulu FC is currently in position 10 in the DStv Premiership table.
