The Senegal squad has been financially rewarded by the country's president Macky Sall, despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Algeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Aliou Cisse's side were denied an unprecedented Afcon triumph when they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Riyad Mahrez's Algeria in the Afcon 2019 final at the Cairo International Stadium last Friday.
As per orangefootballclub.com, the Lions of Teranga were welcomed by president Sall at the State House in Dakar on Saturday evening, with each player and member of the technical team being rewarded with $34 000 (R470 000) for their efforts in guiding the country to only their second Afcon final ever.
The reward was presented to the players and members of the Senegalese technical team by the president himself, and is an added incentive on top of the $17 000 (R235 000) each member of the team had been allocated for reaching the final.
The Lions of Teranga, who had six representatives in the CAF AFCON Team of the Tournament, returned home to a hero's welcome after their exploits in Egypt.
Despite failing to win a first title, look how Senegal were welcomed back to Dakar.
