Egypt President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reportedly claimed the national team will no longer consider foreign coaches after their disappointing AFCON 2019 showing.
The Pharoes were tipped as favourites to end their nine-year drought on the continent after being awarded with the hosting rights of the continental showpiece but fell at the last-16 hurdle against Bafana Bafana.
And their performances under Javier Aguirre, despite their 100% record towards the knock-out stage, drew plenty of criticism from local media and fans.
The record seven-time champions of African won the title under Hassan Shehata on three occasions during his stint between 2006 to 2010.
But the title has since eluded them during spells with American Bob Bradely, Argentine Hector Cuper and now the recently axed Mexican Aguirre.
"We are not going to hire a foreign again, we we have enough Egyptian coaches," president Al-Sissi is quoted to have said during the National Youth Conference.
Shehata, Ehab Galal, Hossam Hassan, Hossam El Badry and Tarek El Ashry are amongst the names linked with the current vacancy.
