Benfica 4-5 Barcelona
FC Barcelona struck in the dying stages of the second half to secure a 5-4 win over Benfica on Tuesday night.
The Portuguese outfit got the breakthrough after two minutes when Alvaro Fernandez did well to pick out the run of Vangelis Pavlidis, who sent a first-time strike into the back of the net.
Hansi Flick's charges got back on level terms in 13th minute when Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty after Alejandro Balde was brought down by Tomas Araujo.
Pavlidis restored Benfica's lead on 22 minutes before he completed his hat-trick eight minutes later from the penalty spot.
Raphinha pulled one back for Barcelona on 64 minutes, but Benfica hit back four minutes later thanks to an own goal from Ronald Araujo.
Lewandowskis reduced the deficit with his second from the penalty spot before Eric Garcia popped up with the equaliser for the visitors with four minutes left on the clock.
However, Barcelona got the winning goal in second-half stoppage time as Raphinha completed his brace with a composed finish, with VAR confirming the strike after Benfica players appealed for a penalty at the other end.
Atletico Madrid 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen
Atletico Madrid climbed to third spot in the League Phase after defeating Juventus 2-1.
A lively first half saw the home side reduced to ten men in the 25th minute following Pablo Barrios' red card, before Piero Hincapie put visitors ahead on the stroke of halftime.
Atletico, however, did get back on level eight minutes after the break as Julian Alvarez got on the end of Antoine Griezmann's pass before firing home.
The referee evened up the odds in the 76th minute when Hincapie went from hero to villain after receiving his marching orders.
Los Rojiblancos had the final say as Alvarez got the winning goal in second-half stoppage time, pushing the team to the brink of a quarter-final berth.
