Rulani 'fast-tracks Mailula signing' at Wydad

South African coach Rulani Mokwena has reportedly requested the management of Wydad Athletic Club to resolve Cassius Mailula's future in Morocco as a matter of urgency.

It is now reported that the management of Moroccan club Wydad has prioritised several key matters recommended by South African head coach Rulani Mokwena following his return from South Africa after the passing of his grandmother.

Reports suggest that the club's board has identified two urgent issues requiring immediate action, based on recommendations from Mokwena and sporting director Hassan Benabicha.

According to Kooora.com, the first priority is securing the permanent transfers of Mehdi Mubarak and Mailula, who both joined the club on loan until the end of the season.

Mubarak arrived on a season-long loan from United Arab Emirates side Al Ain, while the South African forward joined from Toronto FC.

Both players have recently become integral to Mokwena's squad, and the coach is desperate to retain them beyond the current campaign.

The Arabic publication claims that a source revealed: "Mubarak and Mailula must be present for the Club World Cup.

"If Wydad qualifies for next season's CAF Champions League, they should also be part of the squad, as they are the foundation for building a strong team."

To finalise the duo's permanent transfers, Wydad will need to negotiate a deal exceeding one million dollars (R18.3 million).

The second issue involves extending the contract of goalkeeper Youssef El Motie, who has recently lost his starting position to Mehdi Benabid.

El Motie's future remains uncertain, and he may leave unless the club successfully persuades him to stay.

The sources added: "Wydad completed 30 transfers this season, but the management does not wish to repeat such a high number in the future. This was a transitional phase, and from now on, the club is focused on carefully planning its sporting strategy for the future."
