Red-hot Ronaldo bags brace in Portugal thrashing

Bosnia-Herzegovina 0-5 Portugal

Portugal made it seven wins from seven matches in their European Championship qualifying campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The visitors got off to the perfect start when top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot on five minutes, before he completed his brace 15 minutes later with a composed finish.

Bruno Fernandes added a third goal in the 25th minute with a powerful finish from close range after neat ball over the top by Goncalo Inacio.

The 2016 European champions continued dominate as Barcelona loanees Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix added the fourth and fifth goals respectively before the break 

There were no goals in the second half but five goals in the first stanza were enough to get the job done.

Greece 0-1 Netherlands 

The Netherlands kept their qualifying hopes alive after leaving it late to defeat Greece on Monday night.

With the game seemingly headed for a draw, the Dutch were awarded  a penalty in second-half stoppage time, which allowed Virgil van Dijk to calmly convert from 12 yards.

As a result, Ronald Koeman's side have leapfrogged Greece into second spot with two games left to play.

Azerbaijan 0-1 Austria

Austria qualified for the European Championship with two games to spare as they edged Azerbaijan on Monday evening.

Former Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer was the hero on the day after scoring from the penalty spot in the 48th minute to seal maximum points and their spot at the finals.

Belgium v Sweden (Abandoned)

Belgium's clash with Sweden was abandoned due to a a suspected terrorist attack in Brussels.

"Following a suspected terrorist attack in Brussels this evening, it has been decided, after consultation with the two teams and the local police authorities, that the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden is abandoned. Further communication will be made in due course," UEFA tweeted.
