An African club is now said to have abandoned the possibility of signing Bafana Bafana star Lebo Mothiba.
Mothiba has been without a club since June 2024 after being released by Strasbourg following the expiry of his contract.

The South African spent six years on the books of Strasbourg, although he also had a loan spell at Troyes during the 2021/22 season.
The 28-year-old, who missed a large part of last season due to injury, has not kicked a ball for at least a year as he continues working his way back to full fitness.
According to Le Site Info, Wydad Athletic Club have now decided not to sign Mothiba.
The centre-forward was in Morocco and had the chance to watch Wydad from the stands during their game against Maghreb de Fes on 28 December 2024.
The report claims that Wydad head coach Rulani Mokwena was not sufficiently convinced to recommend the player to the club's management for a contract.
In October 2024, Mothiba was reported to have been training with German Bundesliga 2 side Karlsruher FC, and around the same period, he was linked with Israeli giants Maccabi Haifa.
This is the longest period Mothiba has gone without a club, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the former Lille star.
