The Champions had the chance to extend their lead in the 55th minute when Isco through on goal, but the midfielder failed to convert past Pacheco.

Ronaldo, who was quiet on the night, went agonisingly close to adding Real's third on 64 minutes as his powerful strike crashed against the upright.

The home side nearly leveled matters in the 74th minute as Pedraza rattled the upright with a powerful effort from distance with Keylor Navas well beaten.

Real managed to see out the final 15 minutes with relative ease to claim three points and get the campaign back on track.
