Ronald Ketjijere aiming for Cosafa Cup gold

The Cosafa Cup Final takes place at Moruleng Stadium on this afternoon, pitting Namibia and Mozambique, two countries that have never won this trophy before through all of the 14 editions.

For The Brave Warriors they have twice reached the final (1997 and 1999), but lost to Zambia and Angola on both occasions, while The Mambas lost to South Africa in the 2008 Final.

While reaching the final would have been considered an achievement in Namibia, the University of Pretoria insists that is not enough.

“The ultimate goal is to lift the trophy and make history because we have never won this trophy as a country. This is the reason why we are so fired for the final,” Ketjijere tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“The tournament has been awesome for us considering that we had not been getting the results that we wanted in the build-up to this competition as we were struggling to score goals.

“So now that we are in the final we will keep on doing what we have been doing in the previous games by playing our normal football while rectifying the mistakes that led to us conceding two goals in the semi-final against Madagascar. The game plan that we have employed has worked well and we can only hope that the guys upfront score the goals.

“It will be an awesome feeling to lift the trophy and make the people of Namibia proud. The people back home have suffered for way too long and I think it is about time football brought them something to be very happy about.

“We don’t want to come this far and not win this trophy as that will mean all our efforts will have been in vain.”

Madagascar will meet Botswana in the third place playoff earlier on in the day (15h00).
