'First time I'm this confident before a Soweto Derby'

Orlando Pirates legend and a Soweto Derby veteran in his heyday, Thabo Mngomeni, has made a bold prediction for Saturday's clash of titans between his former side and Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates will host their biggest rivals Chiefs at FNB Stadium in a Betway Premiership match that has garnered so much interest for obvious reasons.

"To be honest, we are feeling good going into this game," says 'Rastaman', as Mngomeni is affectionately known, tells KickOff.com

"A lot has changed at Pirates since the last time we spoke. I used to complain about the inconsistency in our play, but right now, I don't see any way we can lose this Soweto Derby. This game has come at a time when the scales are heavily tipped in our favour.

"I don't see us losing this one. Come rain or shine, this is a game Pirates must win. However, that will only happen if we stick to the way we have been playing lately."

The former midfield maestro also shared about what he thinks Amakhosi's biggest problem currently is, as they have blown hot and cold since the season started.

"It is the lack of confidence among their players individually. I don't think they have fully developed chemistry yet. That will be their greatest challenge on Saturday.

"They are still trying to understand each other's playing styles, and that could lead to their downfall.

"On the other hand, Pirates have completely gelled as a team.

"Yes, many of the Chiefs players will be highly motivated and will make the game entertaining, since it's a derby, but I simply don't see Kaizer Chiefs beating us. In fact, I don't foresee Chiefs even getting a draw in this match.

"This one is clearly written for Pirates. It's the first time I'm this confident before a Soweto Derby."

The legendary former Bafana Bafana star also singled out young talent Relebohile Mofokeng as the player to make a difference in the derby.

"I have often complained about the inconsistency of some Pirates players, but I am genuinely impressed by most of them lately. Mofokeng, in particular, brings so much energy to the team. Pirates has always thrived on having players like him who add that extra spark."

Kick-off is at 15:30.
