Moroka Swallows' Nedbank Cup journey came to an end after losing 2-1 to second-tier side University of Pretoria on Wednesday evening.

Swallows made wholesale changes, as only goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, Sipho Sibiya and Jacob Everson remained from the heavy defeat against Sekhukhune United.

The sides were not holding back in the opening exchanges but they were not accurate with their efforts on goal.

And although neither side could build momentum, Roland Sanou came close to breaking the deadlock midway into the first stanza with a strike from the edge of the box that was parried over the crossbar by goalkeeper Edward Maova.

AmaTuks started to find rhythm going forward after the half-hour mark as Promise Mkhuma and Tebogo Mohlamonyane were denied the opener by Akpeyi on two separate occasions and the first stanza ended without goals.

The second-tier outfit started the second stanza with a lot of energy as ten minutes in, Kamogelo Pheeane came very close to breaking the deadlock with a header that came off the crossbar.

The Tshwane side remained on the front foot and oments later Delano Abrahams was also denied the opener by the bottom upright after a sweeping shot in the box.

However, Mohlamonyane eventually got the breakthrough for Tlisane Motaung's charges just before the hour-mark with a low drive unmarked in the box past Akpeyi.

The Tshwane side made an attacking and tactical change moments later in search of the second goal as Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Thabang Sibanyoni fellow Brazilian loanee Promise Mkhuma.

However, Swallows pushed AmaTuks back in their own half and Lwanda Mbanjwa eventually levelled matters ten minutes before time with a stunning curler in the box towards the top corner.

It was anybody's game in the dying and Sibanyoni made an impact for the University side after he snatched the winner in stoppage time with a thumping shot after he went through in the box.
