‘I have agreed to be Rulani’s new assistant coach’

It has now been revealed that Wydad Athletic Club boss Rulani Mokwena has found a new assistant coach to join his technical staff.

With six months as Wydad boss already under his belt, Mokwena now looks to make bigger improvements to his team.

Despite getting off to a slow start in the Botola Pro 1, the South African manager has since lifted his team up to third on the table after 19 matches played.

Earlier this month, he also welcomed his first January signing with the arrival of Fahd Moufi on a free transfer from Hajduk Split in Croatia.

However, it now appears that Mokwena's reinforcements are not only limited to players, as a former Moroccan footballer has revealed that he has agreed to become an assistant coach at Wydad.

Youssef Achami, who played for Wydad between 1998 and 2003, has confirmed he will be rejoining the Casablanca outfit as Mokwena's right-hand man.

Achami told Moroccan publication Goud: "There is an agreement between me and Wydad's management to work as Rulani Mokwena's assistant coach, pending the formalisation of the arrangements and an official announcement."

It is said that Wydad already had a good relationship with Achami, and his proficiency in English was a huge advantage in him being chosen as Mokwena's assistant.

It won't be Achami's first spell as the assistant coach at Wydad, as he previously served in the role under Serbian manager Zoran Manojlovic and Tunisian coach Faouzi Benzarti.
