‘Gaston is unforgettable for me’

So, with Gaston Sirino attracting headlines just four months into his stay at Kaizer Chiefs, a fellow South American former teammate has raised his voice about him.

Sirino has provided six goal contributions at Chiefs, but all came before allegations of issues surfaced last week.

Nasreddine Nabi has evidently not been impressed with some of what has come out of the player at Naturena and interesting will be how the Tunisian-Belgian gets the best out of the 33-year-old.

With this matter now in the public eye, Sirino's former teammate Jorge 'Kike' Acuna has shared what he knows about the man who joined Chiefs having won 13 trophies during the six-and-a-half years at Mamelodi Sundowns, which included seven league titles.

"Gaston Sirino is a great player and good human being," declares Acuna, who once played for Mamelodi Sundowns just like Sirino.

Acuna also had two spells playing with Sirino at Chilean club San Felipe, before they both left in July 2015 with the former heading to CD Cobresal, while the latter went to San Luis.

In their last season playing together in Primera B, Sirino scored 14 as an attacking midfielder with Acuna providing cover as the anchorman.

"I had the pleasure of knowing him, helping him when we were teammates.

"He is an extraordinary player and an admirable person.

"We don't always remember all the players we played with, especially me, but with Gaston, it is impossible not to do so.

"Gaston is unforgettable for me, thanks to football.

"I had the fortune of sharing (the field) with great South American players and Gaston is undoubtedly one of them.

"Simply a genius on and off the field and I thank football for giving me the opportunity to share the dressing room with him.

"Send him a big hug and tell him that I always remember him with great affection and that I will never forget what he told me when he saw me.

"It's scaring me... ha, ha, ha," says Acuna.
