Advice for Lepasa as striker's Pirates struggles continue

There seems to be no end in sight to Zakhele Lepasa's struggles at Orlando Pirates, and now the club's former striker Andries Sebola has pointed out what he believes has led to the player's change in fortunes.

Despite his great start for the Buccaneers at the beginning of last season scoring crackers, to everyone's surprise, Lepasa struggled for game-time under Jose Riveiro and ended the campaign with only three league goals.

Sebola advises the 27-year-old to ask the club to release him.

"Right now, Lepasa must just ask to go somewhere [else]. Everyone can see he is not in the plans because even in the recent friendly games we didn't see much of him," says Sebola, speaking to this publication.

"Towards the end of last season, he was nowhere to be seen. So, the only thing we remember about the boy is him doing well at SuperSport [United, on loan].

"So, for the sake of his football career, he must just ask Pirates to loan him if he is still under contract.

"He must go back to SuperSport United or go to the likes of AmaZulu. AmaZulu are a top team again, they are signing good players.

"It's better he moves away from Pirates because it's clear he is not in the coach's plans," adds the man fondly known as 'Local is Lekker'.

Furthermore, Sebola highlights where he thinks things went wrong for the centre-forward who helped Bafana Bafana qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations that took place at the beginning of the year.

"Yes, he scored quality goals for Pirates in the beginning, but the thing with South African players is once they score three goals, they become big-headed and forget that what is important is consistency.

"If you are a striker, you can't go three games without scoring a single goal. He was not working hard on his game.

"Bringing in Tshegofatso Mabasa during the January transfer meant the end of Zakhele Lepasa.

"He was given game time, there were injuries here and there, but after that, he disappeared. At first, he was utilizing the chances given to him, but since then, things turned for the worse.

"So, only a move away from Pirates will do him good, to be honest."
