'There is no player who deserves to be a Bafana player' - Broos explains absence of Chiefs players

Head coach Hugo Broos has delivered a scathing analysis of the Kaizer Chiefs squad after naming a final 23-man Bafana Bafana squad that does not include a single player from the Soweto Giants.

Broos named his final 23-man squad for upcoming friendlies against Namibia and DR Congo to be played in September.

Despite Pule Mmodi, Given Msimango and Sfiso Hlanti named in the initial 36-man squad, all three did not make the cut for the final squad.

The Belgian tactician has explained that in his opinion, no player in the current Amakhosi squad was deserving of a call-up to the final squad.

"Kaizer Chiefs is still the Kaizer Chiefs of last year, they have a lot of new players and maybe that is the reason they don't achieve the level they need to achieve, they are still many points behind Sundowns," Broos said.

"I said already last year, for any competition it's important that the top teams are in the top of the rankings. Okay, Pirates won yesterday so there is only what?a  five-point difference between Sundowns, with Kaizer Chiefs it's eight points I think. This is too much.

"Only five games and you are already eight points behind who is first, and it's not a little team that is first (Sundowns).

"So yes, Chiefs have to improve. When I see the games, last Saturday or Sunday I was at the Chiefs game and I'm very sorry but now for the moment there is no player who deserves to be a Bafana Bafana player."

Meanwhile, Chiefs will be aiming to make it two wins on the bounce when they take on Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Kick off is at 19:30.
