Real make huge Mbappe decision?

Following their longstanding interest in Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, reigning European champions Real Madrid are said to have made a huge call regarding the French sensation.

Los Blancos were dealt a heavy blow back in May when Mbappe chose to sign a record-breaking three-year contract extension with PSG, despite appearing to be headed for the Spanish giants prior to that.

With his new deal, the 23-year-old reportedly became the highest-paid player in the world, surpassing teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the biggest earner in the Premier League.

The forward's decision to stay in Ligue 1 was received poorly by Real president Florentino Perez, who claimed afterwards that the attacker "was not the Mbappe he knows", while the player later revealed that even the president of France contacted him in May to persuade him to stay in Paris.

With the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner seemingly set to remain in his country of birth until June 2024 – recent reports in France suggested that his new contract was actually a two-year extension with the option of a further year should he wish to continue – it has now been reported that the LaLiga powerhouse will not be vying for his signature when he becomes available.

According to Marca, the 14-time UEFA Champions League holders are not interested in equalling or bettering Mbappe's mammoth annual salary of €150 million (R2.5 billion), nor are they willing to give him the kind of signing-on bonus he got when he agreed to extend his Parc des Princes stay, said to be upward of €100 million (R1.7 billion).

It is further claimed that while PSG will consider selling the 2017 Golden Boy award winner in 2024 if he refuses to sign another extension, Real will not change their initial offer they made to the marksman.

Carlo Ancelotti's side has reportedly learned from their previous dealings with big players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, who was on a big contract during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu but wanted more money to extend his stay in 2018, with Los Blancos refusing to give in to his demands and the Portugal star going to Juventus instead.
