PSG end Arsenal's UCL dreams

Paris Saint-Germain booked their spot UEFA Champions League final with a 3-1 aggregate win over Arsenal in the semi-finals.

The Gunners recalled Jurrien Timber and Mikel Merino from the weekend's loss to Bournemouth, while the French champions had one change from the first-leg as Bradley Barcola started ahead of Ousmane Dembele.

Arsenal had a golden chance on three minutes through Martinelli’s first-time shot from a long-throw by Declan Rice, but Gianluigi Donnarumma parried emphatically.

Following a tough start, PSG nearly had the opener in the 17th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia charged in the box to get a shot in from a delivery, but he hit the upright.

The Gunners were behind ten minutes later as Fabian Ruiz brought a cutback to the edge of the box under control following a free-kick and riffled in the top-corner.

Mikel Arteta’s men went searching for the equaliser after halftime, but lacked the intensity to unlock the defensive-block of the French giants.

Bukayo Saka came close later on when he cut inside to curl towards the top-corner only for Donnarumma’s outstretched palm to repel him.

PSG could’ve doubled the lead midway in the second half through a penalty by Vitinha after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) called William Saliba for a hand-ball, but David Raya saved the midfielder's spot-kick.

It didn’t matter though as the host did extend their lead when Achraf Hakimi ran to the area to pick up a lay-off from Dembele and curled in the bottom-corner.

Arsenal pulled one back in the last 15 minutes after a defensive lapse by the host allowed Saka to come inside and round Donnarumma for a simple finish.

Saka should’ve drawn them level not long thereafter from the centre of the area and with the goal at his mercy, but he steered well over the crossbar.

In the end, the Premier League giants missed out on a place in the final as PSG advanced to meet Inter Milan in Munich.
