Surprise twist in Neymar and Mbappe's 'feud' emerges

Neymar's actions during Paris Saint-Germain's emphatic 7-2 win in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night seem to suggest that there may be a new twist in his reported feud with teammate Kylian Mbappe.

While rumours regarding Mbappe and Neymar's reportedly rocky relationship date back to last season, the pair have grabbed more headlines since the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign, with tension between them said to have grown.

In the past couple of weeks, it was reported that Mbappe had grown further frustrated with his Brazilian colleague in Paris, and that he had informed the PSG hierarchy that he would only see out the remainder of his new contract, which ends in 2025, if Neymar is sold to another club.

On the pitch, though, the pair have had prolific starts to the new season, with the French sensation contributing with 20 goals and assists in just 16 matches, while the Selecao talisman has registered 23 goal involvements in 17 outings.

With the duo believed to share a frigid relationship behind the scenes, a certain incident during PSG's drubbing of European minnows Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League on Tuesday night seemingly painted a different picture of their reported feud.

Following a poor tackle on Mbappe by the Israeli outfit's defender Abdoulaye Seck, Neymar seemingly jumped to the ex-Monaco star's defence, reacting furiously towards the Senegalese player, which resulted in the PSG No. 10 receiving a booking for his conduct, per the Daily Mirror.

It was a reaction that surprised many considering all that has reportedly gone on between them over the past few months, and seems to suggest that the Les Parisiens attackers have buried the hatchet for the benefit of the team despite whatever their differences might be.

Both players got on the scoresheet on the night, with Mbappe scoring twice and assisting another two goals, while Neymar scored once and assisted another strike.
