Modric's current contract with Los Blancos expires at the end of the season, which unsurprisingly has seen the midfielder linked with a number of clubs.
Inter and Paris Saint-Germain were the two clubs heavily linked with the Ballon d'Or winner last year, but he opted to remain with the Spanish giants.
Modric, who was awarded the Golden Foot on Wednesday, has now revealed he has been keeping a close eye on the Italian top flight.
"I like Italy, it's close to Croatia," Modric told Sky Italia.
"I watch Serie A because I have many national team-mates playing there. Then the Italians are fantastic and have a mentality similar to us Croats."
"We'll see if one day I can play in Italy, I can't talk about this because I'm a Real Madrid player, I like being in Real and for now I see my future only there."
