Messi inspires PSG to victory in seven-goal thriller

Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain came from behind on two occasions to defeat Troyes 4-3 on Saturday evening.

Nordi Mukiele, Presnel Kimpembe, Marco Verratti and Carlos Soler were restored by PSG following their win over Maccabi Haifa in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

Troyes stunned the host on three minutes when Mama Balde collected a cross from Rony Lopes and thumped into the roof of the net.

The Parisans were under further pressure minutes apart and nearly conceded again as Balde's teasing attempt from a smart ball fizzled beyond the bottom-corner.

PSG rallied about before the half-hour mark and were back on level terms when Soler picked up a clipped pass by Neymar Junior and rounded the opposite number for a cool finish.

It became a lively and positive opening spell before the half-hour mark, as PSG nearly went ahead from a free-kick by Neymar but Gauthier Gallon parried and denied Mukiele on the follow-up too.

Gallon was called to action again shortly towards the break where he pushed a smart header from Lionel Messi away following neat passing play around the area.

Troyes restored their lead seven minutes in the second half when Balde met a low ball in the six-yard area and slotted beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG however restored parity ten minutes inside the resumption as Messi found a clever pass from Sergio Ramos and curled in from outside the area.

Messi reversed roles after eight minutes when he picked out Neymar with a point-pass and saw the Brazilian ran clear to beat Gallon, with Marquinhos and Fabian Ruiz introduced.

PSG nabbed a fourth albeit from the penalty spot with 12 minutes to go after Soler had drawn a foul off Gallon and Kylian Mbappe stepped up to bury the spot-kick.

There was late drama though as Troyes grabbed a third after Ante Palaversa pounced on a loose ball and slotted home, but the visitors were unable to carve out another opening as PSG held on for the win.
