Ligue 1 match report Clermont v Paris Saint-Germain 09 April 2022

Kylian Mbappe and Neymar stole the show as Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Clermont Foot 6-1 on Saturday evening.

The in-form Kylian Mbappe started up front for PSG and was accompanied by Lionel Messi and Neymar Junior, with Keylor Navas, Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria amongst a host of absentees.

PSG took just six minutes to go ahead when Neymar collected a pass in space from Messi and finished from the edge of the area with the strike confirmed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The front trio combined and doubled PSG's lead moments later as a square ball from Neymar to Messi saw the Argentine chest down and allocate Mbappe to apply a smart finish.

However, Clermont carved a way back four minutes before halftime when Jodel Doussou ran onto the end of a low first-time cross in the area to find the roof of the net.

Neymar could've had his brace and restored his side's two-goal advantage with a rasping strike from range minutes later, but it was repelled.

PSG continued to apply pressure after a quiet start to the second half, as Sergio Ramos headed a speculative delivery from a corner wide of Arthur Desmas's goal.

As the Parisans introduced Georginio Wijnaldum for Idrissa Gueye before the closing period, they also extended their lead through a penalty from Neymar following a foul on Mbappe.

PSG bagged a fourth goal inside the final 15 minutes through a composed finish from point-blank range by Mbappe off a delight supply by Neymar.

The on-song Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the last ten minutes when he took a pass from Messi in his stride and curled beyond the reach of Desmas.

Claremont conceded a sixth with five minutes remaining as Mbappe reversed roles and released Neymar to go and bag his hat-trick too with a close-range finish.

The Parisans continued to look for more goals despite their already healthy lead, but emerged 6-1 winners in the end.
