Ronald Koeman confirms he wants to sign Memphis Depay for Barcelona

FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed he still hopes to sign Netherlands international Memphis Depay.

The Dutch winger recently revealed he was pretty close to joining the Catalan giants in the recently closed transfer window but was denied due to certain rules.

Depay's contract at Olympique Lyon expires at the end of the current season, which could the French club cash in on his services in January rather than lose him for free.

Koeman claims he is still hoping to sign the former Manchester United winger in the upcoming January transfer window.

"It's a possibility. I will try because I want to have him at Barcelona, but I can't know what the financial situation of the club will be then. We'll have to wait," he told AD.

When asked why they failed to sign Depay last month, Koeman added,""Everything was ready but due to La Liga rules we knew we had to sell a player first," Koeman confirmed. "In the end, that didn't happen.

"We wanted Memphis because he's a great player and because he's got qualities that I think we lack, including an ability to play with depth in his game."
