Ex-Chiefs coach makes Ahly CWC bold claim

A former Kaizer Chiefs coach has reportedly made a bold prediction about Jose Riveiro's Al Ahly side ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States.

The Red Devils departed for America on Wednesday night as they continue their preparations for the prestigious global tournament under new head coach Jose Riveiro.

Al Ahly are scheduled to face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on June 15, followed by tough clashes against Brazilian giants Palmeiras and Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto.

Riveiro, the Spanish tactician who took charge after a successful stint with South Africa’s Orlando Pirates, has expressed strong belief in his squad, confident they can make history on the world stage.

With many African football lovers rallying behind Ahly to shine in America, former Amakhosi mentor Cavin Johnson has joined the chorus of support.

Johnson, who previously worked with the Egyptian club as an assistant under Pitso Mosimane, has highlighted several key factors he believes could help Al Ahly progress beyond the group stage.

"I always follow Al Ahly or try to read the news of their matches, in my opinion, the team is capable of qualifying from the group stage of the Club World Cup and be on top of the group," Johnson said to 365scores, per Twaslnews

"They have signed many good players. I think Mahmoud Trezeguet will be the team's star in this tournament and will be a very strong addition to Al Ahly in the coming period due to his extensive experience in European stadiums and with the Egyptian national team.

"I also really like the performance of Imam Ashour and striker Wissam Abu Ali."
