It was said the teenager struggled to make at impression initially, with Blaugrana president Joan Laporta then reportedly requesting that the coaching staff extend the youngster's trial period to allow him a chance to settle.

Barcelona have now decided to sign the aspiring professional footballer, as confirmed by Ronaldinho's son himself.

Mendes will now focus on getting into the starting XI of their U19 side, who are due to face Girona Juvenil A in their next league tie this weekend.

According to ESPN, Mendes has signed a one-year deal that will last until he is too old to play for the U19 academy side, at which point the Spanish club will assess whether or not to extend his stay.

Mendes is a left-footed attacker who can play across the front three.
