European giants confirm talks with Messi

Lionel Messi could be set for a sensational exit from Paris Saint-Germain after one of Europe's top clubs confirmed they are in talks with the Argentine superstar.

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner's contract at PSG expiring in June and his future having been the subject of huge speculation as a result, FC Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has all but confirmed that the Spanish club has begun talks over a potential return for their all-time leading goalscorer.

The Blaugrana are known to be one of his possible next destinations, as is Major Soccer League side Inter Miami as well as Inter Milan of Italy, should he decide not to extend his deal at PSG, although he is also said to be willing to spend at least one more season in France before jetting off to the US.

It is understood that it would take a huge effort for the Catalans to complete a transfer for their former captain given their current financial situation, even though Messi would arrive as a free agent.

That said, the Spanish giant's deputy chief revealed on Friday afternoon that they are, in fact, in communication with the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner and his father, Jorge Messi.

"I participated in the negotiations that sadly weren't successful [when Messi left Barca in 2021]. I am still frustrated that Leo couldn't continue playing for this club," Yuste said, according to Goal.

"If we talk about the Masia academy and youth players, we are talking about Leo. He arrived here when he was 12 years old.

"Of course, I would love to have him back. I say this personally. But I think many of our supporters would love that too, for everything he would represent if he came back, not only on a sporting, economic and social level, among other issues, but also because I think that all beautiful stories must have a happy ending.

"And answering your question, my answer is yes. We are in contact with them (referring to Messi and his father/agent Jorge Messi)."
