FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed they tried to sign Colombian star Luis Diaz before Liverpool won the race for his signature.
Diaz joined the Reds from FC Porto in the January transfer window this year in a deal reportedly worth €47million.
There were reports claiming Liverpool made the move in January rather than at end of last season, as Tottenham Hotspur were also keen on the Colombia international's services.

However, Laporta has revealed they were also interested in the winger's services but were halted by their financial issues.
"At that time we had just landed at the club and Liverpool beat us to it, but we were considering bringing [Diaz] in," said Laporta, as per Goal.
"But we were in an economic situation that we had to resolve and reverse. Liverpool were ahead of us."
"He's a great player who has a great sense of belonging to Liverpool and I'm not going to talk about it anymore, but we were interested at the time.
"We had a conversation with his representative, but they already had it very advanced [with Liverpool]."
