Bayer Leverkusen's Javier Hernandez insists he doesn't want to leave the Bundesliga

Manager Roger Schmidt's men still have European aspirations as they meet Atletico de Madrid in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League in February.

However, Leverkusen currently occupy ninth spot in the league with a substantial eight point gap to make up if they want to take part in the European competition again next season. It has been a relatively disapointing campaign domestically so far for Bayer after they finished third in 2015/16.

Nonetheless, Chicharito insists he is committed to the cause despite rumours linking him with a move away from the outfit from North Rhine-Westphalia.

He told the Bundesliga's official website, "Why would I like to stay in the Bundesliga? Because I feel good and I'm happy. I've learned a lot in the Bundesliga, as a player and as a man.

"I like playing in the Champions League, and luckily Bayer have been involved in the last few years. We hope we can achieve that goal again in the second half of the season."

The 28-year-old has scored seven times in 23 appearances for the club this season, and will no doubt look to add to his tally against Hertha Berlin in the league on 22 January.
