Liverpool get title charge on track, Newcastle make history

Liverpool 3-1 West Ham United

Liverpool recorded their fifth win in a row in all competitions with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over West Ham United at Anfield.

The Reds were in the lead in the opening stages as Mohamed Salah tripped over in the area to win a penalty and stepped up to tuck the away the resultant spot-kick.

David Moyes' outfit pulled level around the final minutes before the break when Jarrod Bowen got a yard of space in the area and nestled the back of the net.

However, Liverpool regrouped following the interval and managed to regain the lead courtesy of Darwin Nunez from an assist by Alexis Mac Allister.

The victory was sealed five minutes before time as Diogo Jota popped up to dispatch Virgil van Dijk's assist and helped the Reds maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Sheffield United 0-8 Newcastle United

Newcastle United were in mean mood and thumped Sheffield United 8-0 to record their biggest away win in the top-flight era.

The breakthrough came in rather controversial circumstances through Sean Longstaff, who got on the end of a cutback to the area.

Sheffield battled to contain the Magpies later on and conceded again when Dan Burn capitalised on a corner-kick before rattling the net with a header.

Another headed effort saw the ambitious outfit bagged a third as Sven Botman outsmarted a few challenges to find the bottom-corner.

Newcastle didn't let up after halftime and made it four through a close-range finish from Callum Wilson before Anthony Gordon curled one in from a tight angle to make it five.

The Blades were thoroughly cut to shreds by the Magpies, who added a sixth after Miguel Almiron finished from an acute position and a seventh followed through another telling strike by Bruno Guimaraes this time around.

Switzerland international Alexandar Isak capped off the routing with a smartly taken solo finish and saw the Magpies to a dominant victory.

Brighton Hove Albion 3-1 Bournemouth

Brighton Hove Albion continued their strong start to the season in the league and moved into the top-three following a 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

The Seagulls didn't have a dominant opening but trailed early on as Dominic Solanke made the breakthrough from a defensive mix-up.

Although, the lead was cancelled right on the stroke of halftime when Milos Kerkez tucked into his own net after attempting to make a clearance.

That goal came at the perfect time for host, who were ahead for the first time in the match a minute after halftime through Kaoru Mitoma.

The Japanese international continued to terrorise the opposition and duly bagged a brace in the closing minutes from more smart bit of play and ultimately brought matters to a close.

Chelsea 0-1 Aston Villa

Chelsea's disappointing start to the season in the Premier League continued and slumped to a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa to remain in the bottom-half of the table in Sunday's action.

The Blues were a man down as Malo Gusto saw red ten minutes following halftime for a clumsy challenge on Lucas Digne which went for a pitch-side review before it was ultimately approved.

Villa used the situation to good effect and snatched the winner on the counter through none other than forward Ollie Watkins, as the win elevates the Clarets in the top-six bracket.
