Liverpool's unbeaten run ended by late own goal

Liverpool, who finished the game with nine players, saw their unbeaten run in the Premier League come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.

Brazilian Richarlison came in for the injured Brennan Johnson as Spurs named one change from the draw with Arsenal, whilst Liverpool named the same eleven that started in the win over West Ham United.

The Reds were on the back-foot with 26 minutes played and had Curtis Jones dismissed following a late tackle on Yves Bissouma as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) overturned the on-field decision of a yellow card.

Spurs made use of the man advantage ten minutes to the break when James Maddison threaded Richarlison in left of the area and saw the Brazilian cutback for Heung Min-Son to tap in a gaping net.

It could've been two for the host on 43 minutes after Son played in Dejan Kulusevski who failed to control before Richarlison took hold and clattered the post with a telling effort.

Jurgen Klopp's boys levelled matters on the stroke of halftime as Virgil Van Dijk played a knockdown in the path of countryman Coady Gakpo to rifle home despite the best efforts of Guglielmo Vicario.

Gakpo didn't come out for the second half amidst getting the equaliser and was replaced by Portuguese international Diogo Jota with the match heavily poised.

Although, an intense amount of pressure early in the second half followed the Reds who needed a tremendous point-blank save from Alisson Becker to parry Son's half-volley for a corner-kick.

Spurs seemed to have gone back ahead through another close-range strike from Son off Maddison's pass, but it was ruled out for offside.

However, the Reds received another red-card in the last 20 minutes after Jota committed a cynical challenge on Destiny Udogie and received a second yellow moments from getting his first one.

As the tempo slowed late on, Spurs snatched the winner at the death when Joel Matip steered Kulusevski's low cross from the right into his own net and saw the Reds unbeaten run in the league come to an end.
