McGregor has made his name and fortune fighting in the octagon in recent years, where he attained superstardom by becoming a UFC featherweight and lightweight double-champion.
The Irishman, who is also a successful entrepreneur outside of the arena, now appears to be expanding his spheres of interest after declaring his desire to purchase a football club, with European giants Celtic and Manchester United on his radar.
The 32-year-old's comments come just weeks after he lightheartedly suggested he could rescue the Red Devils from the club's current owners, the Glazer family, who have faced mass protests in recent times.
McGregor is not the first former athlete to look to get involved in purchasing a football club, with boxer Floyd Mayweather, whom he fought in a blockbuster crossover event in 2017, having been previously credited with an interest in Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, NBA star Lebron James owns a stake in Premier League rivals Liverpool, with his involvement further highlighting the appeal that football currently has to investors as a lucrative business opportunity.
