Former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has emerged as a candidate to replace Jose Mourinho as the new Tottenham Hotspur head coach.
Mourinho's 17-month spell as Spurs' manager came to an end last month when the Portuguese tactician was relieved of his duties following the club's poor run of form in the Premier League and UEFA Europa League.
Ryan Mason has stepped in to fill the role in an interim capacity, but the London club is expected to appoint a permanent successor to fill the vacancy at the end of the season.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is considering hiring Benitez for the position after a number of his primary targets, including Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann, ruled themselves out of the running.
The Spaniard, whose CV boasts experience with the likes of Valencia, Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Napoli, Real Madrid and Newcastle United, is now one of the favourites to land the job in north London, although Ralf Rangnick is also believed to be a strong candidate.
Benitez is one of the most decorated active managers in the world having won the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the Europa League, the UEFA Cup, La Liga twice, the FA Cup, the Coppa Italia and the Championship.
