Bundesliga Wrap

Bayer Leverkusen failed to edge closer to the top of the Bundesliga following a 1-0 defeat at home to Vfl Wolfsburg in a top-four contest in Saturday's action.

After edging Borussia Dortmund in midweek, Leverkusen targeted successive wins to stay abreast with the front-runners instead succumbed to Ridle Baku's early strike.

Peter Bosz's side are still in the top-four, tied on points with fourth-place Wolfsburg who have now revived their top-four ambitions following Borussia Monchengladbach's heroics on Friday.

FC Augsburg overcame a three-match winless run in the league following a 2-1 win over Union Berlin, who continue to lose ground with the top-six brigade.

Florian Niederlechner netted the opener for the host, but Union hit back minutes before halftime courtesy of Marcus Ingvartsen before Niederlechner completed his brace early in the second half.

SC Freiburg edged closer towards the top-half of the league standings through a 2-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart.

The visitors had the breakthrough early on courtesy of Silas Wamangituka, but it was quickly cancelled out by Ermedin Demirovic before Jeong Woo-yeong netted their second.

A missed penalty from Nicolas Gonzalez denied Stuttgart the chance to enter halftime level and force a share of the spoils as the host went on to claim victory.

RB Leipzig were unable to go a point off top spot following a 3-2 defeat at the hands of second-bottom and relegation-threatened Mainz 05.

Leipzig made a good start through Tyler Adams, but Moussa Niakhate levelled before Marcel Halstenberg restored the visitors lead late in the first half.

Niakhate clawed the host level before Leandro Barreiro gave them all the points in the second half to revive their fight against the drop.

Eintracht Frankfurt revived their top-six chances with a 5-1 hammering of Arminia Bielefeld out at the Bielefeld Alm.

A brace from Andre Silva followed an own-goal from Joakim Nilsson with the other strikes from Filip Kostic and the returning Luka Jovic gave Eintracht an emphatic triumph with Sergio Cordova giving the host a consolation.
