Egyptian Premier League match report Al Ahly v Al Masry

On the back of Tuesday's disappointment, Ahly decided to recall Salah Mohsen, Taher Mohamed and Amr Al-Sulaya in a bid to maintain their title push following a goalless draw against El Gaish.

The African champions needed to wait just nine minutes for the breakthrough which arrived courtesy of a finish from Mohsen off a delivery by Ali Maaloul.

Ahly's joy lasted only 20 minutes as the visitors pulled matters back on level terms through Abdel Wahed after the Red Devils went to sleep in defence.

However, Mosimane's boys continued to fight and at that reclaimed the lead seven minutes after Masry drew level when El Shahat's ball allocated Mohamed who finished perfectly.

A reply from Masry followed for the second time in the match as a penalty-kick from Ahmed Refaat off a foul by Ahmed Tawfik had the contest all square once again.

The Cairo Red Devils would go on to have the final say of the first half after a ball from Hamdi Fathi granted El Shahat the opportunity to finish smartly past goalkeeper Essam Tharwat.

Unfortunately it was to be Fathi's last involvement following the break, as he made way for the highly-rated Aliou Dieng.

There were movement on the substitutes bench from Masry too, with Emeka Christian Eze introduced for Haggag Oweis and Hassan Ali coming in for Ahmed Gomaa.

Following a quiet spell, Ahly snatched a fourth in the remaining ten minutes through Mahmoud Kahraba from a ball by El Shahat.

The win helped Ahly get back on the winning track but they remain four points behind Zamalek SC, who 2-1 win over Ceramica Cleopatra in the night's other key encounter.
