CAF has now confirmed its decision on Samuel Eto'o after completing an investigation into allegations of match-fixing and corruption.
Eto'o has had a corruption scandal hanging over his head after there were complaints made against him as the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) that accused him of helping local side Victoria United reach the Cameroonian top flight.
Furthermore, the Indomitable Lions icon was also alleged to have unscrupulous dealings with a betting company, but the former player gave his side of the story on 25 June during a hearing at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

"The Disciplinary Jury of the Confederation of African Football ("CAF") met and ruled on the case concerning the President of the Cameroon Football Federation ("FECAFOOT"), Mr. Samuel Eto'o Fils," their statement read, according to CAF's website.
"Mr Eto'o was accused of fixing football matches and violating principles of ethics and integrity.
"The Disciplinary Jury considered that, as things stood, there was insufficient evidence to find Mr Samuel Eto'o Fils and Mr Valentin Nkwain guilty of match manipulation.
"However, the Disciplinary Jury considered that Mr. Eto'o seriously violated the principles of ethics, integrity and sportsmanship provided for in Article 2 paragraph 3 of the CAF Statutes by signing a brand ambassador contract with the company 1XBET in exchange for remuneration and consequently sentenced Mr. Eto'o to a fine of USD 200,000 (R3.6 million)"
