3 African superstars 'reach agreement' with Saudis

Three African superstars playing in Europe are now said to have reached agreements to join Saudi Arabian clubs.

The Saudis are seemingly making progress in their quest to populate their top flight with world-famous footballers.

The Saudi Pro League has already secured French duo Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante after the pair signed for Al Ittihad this month. This comes after Cristiano Ronaldo made the move to Al Nassr early in the January transfer window.

It looks as though Chelsea are set to benefit heavily from the Saudi splurge, with three more of their players having now reportedly reached agreements with teams in the Gulf region after Kante's exit earlier this week.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, they are Hakim Ziyech, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy.

The Morocco international, who scored for his country against Bafana Bafana last weekend, is said to have agreed to join Ronaldo at Al Nassr until June 2026.

British outlet the Evening Standard claims that his transfer fee will be £8 million (R186 million), while his new annual earnings will be in the region of €30 million (R601 million).

Senegal pair Koulibaly and Mendy are reported to have agreed to join Al Hilal and Al Nassr, respectively, with both having endured a largely underwhelming 2022/23 campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The defender will require a transfer fee of about €30 million, according to The Guardian, and will sign a three-year deal with Hilal just one season after joining Chelsea from Napoli.

It is believed Koulibaly is set to become the club's second major signing after Portugal star Ruben Neves, who will reportedly join the club imminently from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mendy, meanwhile, is understood to have said "yes" to a move to Pitso Mosimane's former side Al Ahli, and will also sign a three-year contract with them.

More Chelsea stars could make their way to Saudi Arabia too, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are also being courted by clubs in the country.
