Cape Verde coach aiming to make history against Bafana

Cape Verde coach Bubista is aiming to make history when they take on Bafana Bafana in their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final on Saturday night.

This will be the second meeting between the two sides at the tournament, with the first encounter ending a goalless draw when South Africa were the hosts in 2013.

The Blue Sharks overcame Mauritania in the previous round but they come up against a South African side who eliminated tournament favourites on Tuesday night.

Bubista says the team's objective has always been to reach the final four, which they have never done before.

"We have our objective, which from day one has been to get to the semi-finals," said the Cape Verde head coach, whose full name is Pedro Brito.

"We are one step away from that now and we are going to keep going, while obviously staying humble and respecting our opponents."

"But we believe – that is our focus and we are going to try and get there."

Cape Verde only have one quarter-final appearance to their name, although that ended in a 2-0 defeat to Ghana in 2013.

The match is scheduled to get underway at 22h00.
