South African football icon Reneilwe Letsholonyane was this week honoured by French car manufacturing giants Renault as he received a brand new Clio RS 18 F1 model.
Letsholonyane was initially of the belief that he was attending an interview with snl24.com/kickoff when he in fact found this little pocket rocket waiting for him in the Media24 parking lot on Thursday.
The limited addition Clio RS 18 F1 was launched last year and only a handful have been released on South African shores, with the 36-year-old now rocking one of those.
More than the vehicle, however, 'Yeye' is set to partner with Renault Centurion over the next 12 months as a brand asset and dealership ambassador due to his sterling contribution on the football pitch.
"It was a pleasant surprise, I'm happy that I got to be surprised with this machine," Letsholonyane tells this website.
"Obviously Renault have reasons why they chose me, but there's a whole lot of top players in the country that don't get these opportunities.
"So, to be chosen as a Renault ambassador, I'm happy and feeling extremely honoured."
The former Kaizer Chiefs star has enjoyed an illustrious 17-year professional career thus far, yet this is the first partnership of this kind he has secured, which was all made possible by Lolo Morapedi, who is a Brand Architect at A.I. Relations.
"Obviously age-wise, when it comes to my career, this has come quite late. But, for me, God's timing is the perfect timing," he adds.
"God wanted it to happen right now, and this is where I find myself, so building on from here is also in His hands.
"My plans, ideally, will be to nurture the relationship so that it continues beyond my football career, and if that aligns with God's plan then I'm happy."
