Thamsanqa Sangweni has turned down Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates so far

Sangweni has been the subject of transfer speculation for weeks and this website has now learnt from a very reliable source that the player has made the very difficult decision to disappoint both Amakhosi and The Buccaneers.

Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung and Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza have both enquired about the former Mamelodi Sundowns player, with no success. Both Soweto clubs would also have to agree a deal with Chippa before any formal offer can be made to the player during the current window.

At this stage, Sangweni remains tight-lipped on where he will be playing next season but has said he is happy to stay in Port Elizabeth, even though he has not received certain signing-on fees and other bonuses at Chippa.

The 27-year-old had a great season to help Chippa finish in the top eight for the first time in the club’s history but missed their final league game against Kaizer Chiefs, with rumours suggesting he didn’t want to play against the team he grew up supporting.

It is also believed that Sangweni’s family is urging him to join Pirates over Chiefs because of his recently-retired brother Siyabonga’s previous affiliation with the club.

There is now a strong likelihood that Sangweni will remain at Chippa for next season. His contract expires at the end of June 2017 meaning he will be free to sign a pre-contract with a new club in January next year.
