Mere, whose contract with the team is set to expire at the end of this month, says players want to know what’s happening as there is talk of the club possibly moving to Cape Town.
Mere has been with the club since 2011 and thought that it’s where he would retire, but a lot has changed since the Rustenburg-based outfit got relegated from the Absa Premiership.
“I thought Platinum Stars would be that team where I finish my career, but apparently there’s going to be a name change and it’s going to relocate. That means there won’t be Platinum Stars anymore, but I stand to be corrected,” Mere tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“If it happens that I have to go to another team, then only God knows. But at the moment I am contracted to Platinum Stars until the end of the month. I will see what happens, hopefully something comes up for Vuyo Mere.
“At the moment we are still waiting to hear what is happening. None of us know what is happening, but hopefully they let us know this week so that you know if you are not part of the set up going forward. Then you can go elsewhere and look for a job.
“Some of the guys, like Robert Ng’ambi, have their families in Rustenburg and it’s difficult for them to make that change. Their kids are at school and now they have to leave in the middle of the year. But that’s the nature of the game. These are sacrifices we have to make, but hopefully things turn out well at the end of the day.”
