Orlando Pirates' nostalgic new lifestyle wear

Orlando Pirates have given their fans a blast from their past with their new Zodwa Khoza inspired Heritage Collection. Let's have a closer look!

The Soweto side recently unveiled their newest sports apparel collections, and they have brought one of their classic jerseys back to life.

"Orlando Pirates and adidas have gone back to their roots with a retro-inspired off-field jersey that features adidas' Originals logo – the last time the Originals logo was used on-field in SA was in 1997," a statement on the club's official website read.

"The jersey is branded with the logo of the Zodwa Khoza Foundation further extending this long-standing Orlando Pirates and adidas partnership to the grassroots levels."

Khoza was the brand manager of Pirates as well as the daughter of chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza. She passed away in 2006, however, her legacy lives on to this day, as her foundation remains an integral entity for developing youth sports infrastructure and programs for the young people of Soweto.

The Buccaneers also revealed that global brand adidas has committed to investing R5 million in the Zodwa Khoza Foundation over the next five years.

On a lighter note, the Heritage Collection is quite stunning as it embellishes the iconic black and white strip that is synonymous with the club's aesthetic in the 90s, and although the apparel is classic, it boasts a modern feel because it continues on the new trend of revisiting old jerseys and revitalizing them.

One would recall that clubs like Manchester United, which is an adidas partner as well, have also paid homage to retro kits by bringing them to life with a fresh spin – which is quite apparent in the Red Devils' 2021/22 away jersey.

Your thoughts, please?
