The suspects are due to appear in court on Monday for their different offences, one of them being selling counterfeit tickets.
Fans were told by the SAPS that anyone selling fake tickets or those re-selling them at a higher price would be arrested. Tickets for the match were sold out within two hours a few weeks ago.
“A total of 10 suspects were arrested during the Telkom Knockout semi-final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium,” SAPS lieutenant colonel Thulani Zwane tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“Seven were arrested for the re-sale of tickets. Two were arrested for selling fake tickets and one for pitch invasion. All arrested suspects aged between 20 and 45 years are due to appear in the Durban's Magistrate Court on Monday.
Security at the stadium was on high alert to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day. In April, supporters invaded the Moses Mabhida Stadium pitch after Chiefs were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup semi-finals by Free State Stars and went on to cause damage to the venue to the tune of R2.6 million.
“There were no incidents during the match due to a high security presence and visibility.”
